
The Newport Aquatic Center made its presence known at the 2025 Team USA Trials for Sprint Kayak and Canoe, with a weekend full of standout performances and podium finishes across multiple events.
Aaron Small continued to show why he’s one of the top contenders in the country. He secured 2nd place in both the K1 500m and K1 1000m A Finals, demonstrating consistency and strength in the solo events. Aaron also teamed up for a stellar performance in the K2 500m, where he took 1st place, adding a national title to his already impressive resume.
In the men’s field, Robbie Moralice fought hard in the competitive K1 events, finishing 5th in the B Final of the K1 500m and 7th in the A Final of the K1 1000m. Robbie also paired with Aukai Manson in the K2 500m, where the duo took 5th place, showing promise for future development as a team.
The women’s races were a powerhouse display for NAC. Elena Wolgamot was unstoppable, taking 1st in the A Final of the K1 500m and 1st again in the K2 500m alongside Kali Wilding. The pair showed impressive speed and synchronization to dominate their events.
Kali Wilding also had a strong individual result, finishing 2nd in the K1 500m, just behind teammate Elena. With two medals and a national title in the K2, Kali was a major force throughout the weekend.
Rounding out a clean NAC sweep of the women’s K1 500m podium, Emma McDonald placed 3rd, with Knytly Sybounmy right behind her in 4th. The two also joined forces in the K2 500m and powered their way to a 2nd-place finish, showing great chemistry on the water.
Abbey Vince also competed in the women’s K1 500m and earned 8th place in the A Final, gaining valuable experience at the top level of domestic racing.
Overall, it was a fantastic showing for NAC, with multiple podium finishes, national titles, and a strong representation across both men’s and women’s fields. The athletes’ hard work and dedication were on full display, and the results speak for themselves.
