What’s in a Name?

The Story Behind A Lifetime of Glory

Sometimes a boat is more than carbon fiber and rigging. Sometimes, it carries a story.

Heading into the 2025 Youth National Championships, NAC rowers Owen Clark and Augie Freijo raced in a rented pair. That borrowed shell would go on to carry them all the way to a National Championship title.

When the opportunity later came for the club to purchase that very same boat, it was an easy decision. NAC brought the championship-winning shell home, adding a permanent piece of history to its fleet.

Before the biggest race of their season at the 2025 USRowing Youth National Championships in Florida, Coach Mijo gathered Owen and Augie on the dock and left them with one simple message:

“This race is six minutes of pain for a lifetime of glory.”

The words stuck.506020409 18509848546059747 7731707617678298777 n

Now, every time the boat is carried to the dock, its name serves as a reminder that greatness isn’t found in comfort – it’s earned through sacrifice, grit, and the willingness to give everything you have when the moment arrives.

A Lifetime of Glory isn’t just the name on the side of a shell. It’s a lesson for every athlete who rows it. It’s a reminder that the moments everyone remembers are built on countless hours that no one sees—the early mornings, the hard pieces, the setbacks, and the sacrifices. Every athlete who rows this boat is reminded that six minutes on the race course can become a memory that lasts forever.

A special thank you to the Clark family for making it possible for this championship-winning boat to become part of the Newport Aquatic Center fleet and continue inspiring future generations of rowers.F7657D00 100E 473D BAD6 10C9C2936F31 1 102 o
