NAC at the Kahanamoku Klassic

Team cheering

NAC showed up and out at this past weekend’s Kahanamoku Klassic Outrigger Race! It was a great day on the water with NAC racing 16 different crews throughout the day!

June Gloom had a hold on the morning as our Novice teams prepared for some last minute race course changes – nothing some quick drawings in the sand and pep talks with Coach Chuck couldn’t fix, as both crews pulled through with medals! The Novice Men posted the fastest Novice crew time across the different divisions and won their Novice B division! The Novice Women, back all together after a few missed races, got a respectable 3rd place after a frustrating buoy turn during their course. And NAC’s Makapo crew placed 2nd in their division knocking on their competitors’ heels!

Novice Women

NAC’s Co-ed Sr Masters got 3rd place in their division battling sticky water and slow moving swells during their Long Course. Shout out to the three Novice Men (Ron, Scott, and John) who hopped in with that Co-ed Sr Masters crew and raced back-to-back! Another shout out to Tommi Mejers who stepped up to also race twice after a family emergency pulled a steerswoman away. Racing twice, filling in at the last minute, and racing with a smile on your face is what NAC is all about!

To finish off the day, the sun finally came out, and the Open Men came in first across the line despite a pile-up at the start, succeeding in their goal of winning this particular race that they had set at the beginning of the season! They stayed calm and understroked their competitors throughout the race, making it seem like they were just out for a casual paddle – what a way to win!
