For over a decade, Newport Aquatic Center has been proud to partner with Miracles for Kids, helping children battling cancer and other serious illnesses, along with their siblings, get outside, get on the water, and experience a day filled with fun and adventure.
This summer, that tradition continued as NAC welcomed Miracles for Kids back to the Back Bay for another day of paddling as part of their annual Surf & Paddle Summer Camp.
Around 20 young participants took part in their summer program, which combines days of surfing and paddling to give kids an opportunity to experience the ocean, try something new, and spend time outside together.
Specifically at NAC, the kids traded their everyday routines for life jackets and paddles, heading out onto Upper Newport Bay for a day of exploring the water. The kids paddled over to the Newport Dunes where they were able to play around on the inflatable water park before heading back to NAC to have lunch!
The impact of experiences like these goes far beyond learning how to paddle. It seems like a simple day! But for many of the kids and families Miracles for Kids serves, opportunities to simply get outside, be active, try something new, and enjoy time together can mean a lot.
That’s one of the reasons this partnership has remained so meaningful to NAC over the years.
At Newport Aquatic Center, we believe the water is a place where people can find confidence, connection, adventure, and community. We’re stoked to continue partnering with Miracles for Kids and creating opportunities to get more kids and families out on the water.
After more than 10 years together, seeing the smiles when the canoes leave the beach never gets old — and we’re looking forward to many more days on the Back Bay.
