Racing Into the Spotlight: NAC Dragon Boat Team at San Diego DB Festival:
On September 27th, the NAC dragon boat team made waves at the 14th Annual San Diego International Dragon Boat Festival, competing in the Women’s, Open, and Mixed Divisions. The event brought together more than 50 teams from across the region, creating an energetic atmosphere on the water and the shore with every heat. From the very first strokes to the final sprint, we were reminded of how rewarding teamwork, timing, and grit can be — especially for the several first-time racers who proudly wore NAC colors.
Three Divisions, One Goal, and a Podium Finish:
Under the guidance of Coach Jeannette, our crews raced with determination and discipline. With Team Captain Skylar setting the pace, Race Manager Keith keeping the team organized and focused, and the steady hands of Bob and Cathy steering individual races, the NAC dragon boat team delivered consistent performances across all divisions. Supported by the powerful beats of our drummers, Neddy and Skylar, we pushed through every heat. In the Open Division, our hard work paid off with a Second-Place finish, a highlight moment that celebrated the spirit and skill of every paddler in the boat — especially given the depth of competition on the water.
Reflections & Looking Ahead:
Beyond medals, this festival provided an opportunity to grow stronger—both individually and as a team. The NAC dragon boat team gained valuable insights into pacing under pressure, maintaining mental focus during the mid-race, especially in windy races, and what it takes to push through fatigue together. A big thank you to our leaders, teammates, steerers, and drummers who made this weekend possible. As we continue preparing for future races, we already feel stronger, more synchronized, and hungry for more success on the water.
