Program Goals

Our rowing program provides a challenging and rewarding opportunity for high school student/athletes that incorporates a high level of team work and physical conditioning. Although the program is highly structured and competitive, there is a strong emphasis placed on character. A wonderful chance to build friendships, rowing brings together boys and girls of all backgrounds for a common goal.

2016 – 2017  NAC JUNIOR  ROWING TEAM SEASON

Practices:
3:30 – 6:00 pm M-F (90% attendance required to participate in racing)

Fall and Spring Tryouts:
Tryouts for the fall season will include running, erging, and a general fitness test.  A list will be posted of athletes who made the team.  Mid-season evaluations are performed before the Spring Semester begins. A list of athletes returning to the team for the spring season will be posted no later than January (To be Announced) 2017.  Spring semester tuition is due during the first week of January for both the boy’s and girl’s teams.

Tryouts are held in August and January for both the fall and spring seasons. Participation in the fall season is a pre-requisite to try out for the spring season, unless special permission is granted by the head coach.  Please note that fall participation does not guarantee admittance to the spring season.

Criteria for making the team includes:

    1. Weight adjusted erg score
    2. General fitness and running
    3. Attitude and Coachability
    4. Rowing Ability
    5. Coaches discretion.

Absences:  Communication for absences must be between the athletes and the coaches. We are happy to talk to the parents as well, but we must get communication from the athlete. We require 90% attendance to be eligible to race. DO NOT come to practice if you cannot row. Since we are on the water, there is no “bench” to sit on if you don’t feel well enough to work out. If you are sick and cannot make practice please contact your Coaches before 2PM.

Forms Due: Program enrollment, Terms & Conditions & Liability Wavier, Authorization & Consent for Medical Treatment most be turned in the first day of practice.

Cost: The 2016-2017 season tuition for the Jr. Rowing Program does not include required athlete uniform. This fee includes coaching fees, facility use, all travel, lodging, busing, all race-day meals, regatta entry fees, US Rowing Membership and equipment upkeep. Parents and athletes will also be encouraged to participate in fundraising programs.

Practice Attire:  Athletes should come everyday prepared for land and water workouts and changing weather. Bring running shoes and layers as well as visors and sunglasses.  Athletes must wear spandex with a minimum of 4” inseam. We will give all athletes 2 weeks to purchase appropriate spandex, and after that athletes will be asked to change, or leave practice. Coxswains should dress to workout, and bring layers to stay warm in the coxswain seat. Every coxswain needs to wear a watch that includes a timing function (they have them for $10 at Target).

Uniforms:  Uniforms will be available for purchase online directly from the manufacturer’s website. Ordering information and pricing will be provided by your coach. Note that uniform fees are separate from tuition.  Uniforms are ordered straight trough JL Racing

2016-2017 Uniform Order Information:  JL opens their online store at the beginning of each season for athletes/parents to purchase items at a discounted price. Check with your Coaches for times to receive these discounted prices.  This will be the ONLY time frame to order to receive these prices, as well as ensure that your athlete has a uniform before his/her first race.  Please visit this website between the dates posted each season to order your uniforms.  Note that required items are listed on the webpage. Any questions on sizes and what is required please ask your coach.
